Irvine Fireplace & Chimney Work: Know Which Permit Portal Fits
Irvine moved new online no-plan-check permit applications to PermitsDIRECT in September 2026. Its earlier portal still handles inquiries about existing permits and plan checks and accepts inspection requests.

Irvine's permit portal says that, starting September 14, 2026, it no longer accepts new online no-plan-check applications there and directs those applications to PermitsDIRECT. The same City page keeps plan-check inquiries, permit inquiries and inspection requests on the earlier site. This matters when you are trying to recover the history of an existing fireplace rather than start a new application.
City of Irvine: Permits and Inspections notice ↗Before discussing a new fireplace or chimney alteration, record the appliance model, visible condition, any known permits and the complete proposed change. Ask Irvine Building and Safety which review path applies; the portal notice does not establish whether a particular sweep, repair or installation needs a permit.
City of Irvine: Permits and Inspections notice ↗What have you noticed at the property?
- An existing fireplace with unclear permit or appliance history
- A proposed gas fireplace or venting change needing a defined scope
- A permit or inspection inquiry started before the City's online-system transition
